  1. Late 40s ...A pair of roller skates, the kind you clamp onto your shoes and tighten with a skate key....I saw them at once under the tree, sat down and tried them on my bare feet...I couldn't understand why my parents were laughing until they told me to look to see what I was sitting on...they had bought me a wooden picnic table with two benches...I didn't even see it when I clambered over it to get to the skates.

  2. Congratulations Robin. I remember getting a bike. I was about 11 and we had moved from the inner city out to the suburbs. It was a green dragster.

  3. My favorite gift growing up was my very first two wheel bike. I remember it was raining that Christmas and my Dad pulled the car out of the garage so I could ride around in circles.
    Congratulations to Robin!!

  5. My favorite was my dog - I had been begging for a puppy for years and was SO excited to finally get one. She's 12 years old now, and she's still a great companion. :)

  6. This probably wasn't my favorite gift as a child, but as I look back, my favorite gift was the pajamas we always got on Christmas eve - it signaled that the day was finally here!

  9. Congratulations to Robin and to all the winners.
I remember-many years ago-receiving a large soft doll of Minnie Mouse, and I was so excited. I think Minnie dates me, because she hasn't been a special character in decades!
    Thanks very much.

  10. In 1955 (when I was 5 years old!) I got a baby doll that looked like a real baby (to me). My mother had made scads of little baby clothes and blankets. I loved that doll to death. I remember that on Christmas morning we were driving over to my Grandmother's house and I kept burping and cuddling and talking to that doll thinking that every person we passed would think I was holding a REAL baby!

  11. How embarrassing that I am about to reveal this...one year my uncle sent both me and my little brother an ALF stuffed doll. I do not know why we wanted this so badly, but I do know I was SO excited to get it. Oh dear.

  12. One of my favorite gifts in the early 1960's was a Barbie. I wanted one so bad because my best friend had one. Well I finally got one, but the best part was all the extra clothes my Mom had made on her lunch hour. At that time she worked for the defense dept. making military uniforms.

  13. Ice Skates. And I used them as much as possible as there is a rink in the park a few blocks from home.

  15. Congratulations to all the winners thus far. One of my favorite gifts was a Chatty Cathy doll. Oh, I thought she was sooo special. She became my very best friend. Yeah, I know, I'm showing my age here. HA-HA. dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com

  16. My favorite toy growing up was my Cabbage Patch doll. My mom was one of those women in 1983 who stood in line and was a linebacker getting the prize toy of the year. She was a blonde yarn haired girl named "Janet". I had her until I turned 21 and my apartment burned down.

  17. One of my favorite gifts was a doll house that had a magnetic wand. The "people" had magnets on the bottom and you could move them around the doll house with the wand. It was cool:)

  19. I believe that I was 3 or 4. I had seen this big pink teddy bear at Walmart and wanted it so bad. I remember thinking that I might get it on Christmas morning. When I didn't, I was a bit upset, but loved all my other presents. About a half an hour later, my dad went into his room and loudly announced that he had forgotten one present for me. I was so excited when I saw that he had gotten me that pink teddy bear that I rightfully named Fuzzy. (I did cry later that day when my brother proceeded to sing, Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.... I was upset that he was saying that my new, pretty pink bear didn't have hair. Forgive me. I was 3 or 4.)

  20. My favorite gift was received in the 60s when I was a teen...I opened the most beautiful Smith-Corona typewriter. I loved all things secretarial, and the smile on my face opening that big box was something to behold! I grew up to become a secretary and met my husband when he came to interview in my office. :) That was the end of office work, but I have to say that I've kept our home running smoothly and organized for 30 years! And, of course, my husband always teases that he turned down the job but took the secretary. :)

  21. My very favorite gift was my Barbie townhouse. It was so tall! I really loved Barbie. My girlfriends and I played with that thing for hours. In fact, there were several times I remember spending all of our play time setting up the house. We never got to the dolls!
